ARA-290 is a synthetic peptide composed of 11 amino acids, derived from the tissue-protective region of erythropoietin (EPO). It was specifically engineered to preserve EPO’s neuroprotective and tissue-repair functions while removing its ability to stimulate red blood cell production.
Rather than acting on the classical EPO receptor, ARA-290 targets the innate repair receptor (IRR), also known as the common beta receptor (CD131). Activation of this pathway plays a central role in reducing inflammation and promoting tissue repair and regeneration.
Because ARA-290 does not increase red blood cell production, it avoids the hematologic and cardiovascular risks typically associated with EPO therapy. This makes it a promising candidate for therapeutic use in conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, chronic neuropathic pain, and other inflammatory or nerve-related disorders, where both inflammation control and tissue repair are critical.
